Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority, was joined by Giada Michetti, CEO of GL events Italia and Dany Hachem, group advisor for Q.media events, and provided details and insight into the 2012 Qatar Motor Show. Among the exciting news was confirmation that Formula 1 will use the opportunity of the Qatar Motor Show to reveal a new team for the 2012-2013 season. It was also revealed that a major announcement will be made related to the electric vehicle and hybrid industry. Boosted by the success of the inaugural edition, it was announced that an expansion of the exhibition space was required to accommodate the increased demand for space by exhibitors. Also confirmed was the presence of the world’s most well-known car manufacturers, hints of new car reveals and concept cars, and multiple entertainment activities.

Qatar, as a country, has grown in stature on the world stage over the past half decade,” stated Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority and one of the event’s organizers. “In 2022 our country will host the FIFA World Cup. This year we will host the Pan Arab Games and the 20th World Petroleum Congress. We are also bidding for the 2017 World Athletic Championships and the 2020 Olympics. But it is not just these mega events that are driving visitors to Qatar, it’s our commitment to staging events of cultural and commercial significance to the GCC region and beyond.

The first international edition of the Qatar Motor Show exceeded our expectations on all levels,” said Hachem. “From the demand for space by exhibitors and number of brand previews, to the high profile industry VIPs in attendance and the overall number of visitors. The 2011 Qatar Motor Show was an exceptional event. We are working to make the 2012 edition bigger, more engaging and more entertaining for everyone.” An unprecedented 90,000 visitors attended the 3-day motor show in 2011. Organizers are well aware that the benchmark has been set for the 2012 Qatar Motor Show. For 2012, it has been confirmed that all 36 brands that took part in the inaugural show have confirmed their presence for 2012: Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Bugatti, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Citroen, CMC, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Honda, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Lotus, Maserati, Mercedes, Mini, Nissan, Peugeot, Porsche, Proton, Range Rover, Rolls Royce, Skoda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Volvo and ZX Auto. •  Bugatti  Qatar Motor Show

Bugatti today announced that it will bring a special example of the Veyron to this year’s edition of the Qatar Motor Show, honoring Ettore Bugatti’s passion for experimenting with car customization.

We are talking about a Veyron Grand Sport that comes in a two-tone color scheme, with a bright yellow body and a black lower side, which includes the rims. The same contrast is followed inside, where the seats are finished in yellow leather that comes with black stitching. The center console is dressed in black carbon, while the dash, steering wheel and gearshift us black leather with yellow stitching.

The company also mentions that it no longer offers the Veyron Coupe (the final order was taken in June last year), with the Gran Sport being “the” Veyron right now – a total production of 150 units is planned, with 105 slots still open.

  • 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S 991

It’s 40 year evolution has been a revolution. The two most talked about sides about this story is that unlike most manufacturers, Porsche have down sized the engine capacity for their base model Carrera. Before a 3.6-litre, now a 3.4-litre…while power output has gone up by 5bhp, now peaking at 350bhp. The Carrera S gets 400bhp. Also the 911 is the first car in the world to be offered with a 7-speed manual gearbox. It’s all in the hood.

  • 2012 Ferrari 458 Spider

The most beautiful Ferrari of recent years and arguably amongst the best ever that have come out of the Maranello. It shares that aura with Ferraris of yore and its beauty makes your stare shamelessly. Combine that with the perplexity of hard top convertible on a mid-engine car and you get, quite simply, one of the Modern Wonders of the World.

  • Audi presents new sports range at Qatar Motor Show

Doha – As one of the key motoring events in the Middle East, Qatar Motor Show attracted 90,000 car lovers and trade professionals last year and served as a stage for Audi’s latest innovations. For this year’s Motor Show, taking place from January 25-28 at the Doha Exhibition Centre in West Bay, Audi promised several regional premieres and delivered no less with the reveal of four new models: the new Audi RS 5 Coupé, the R8 GT Spyder as well as the new generation Audi S7 and S8.

In its appearance at the Qatar Motor Show, the brand is proving how its strategy of innovation through motorsport is achieving its objectives. Taking center stage is the Audi R18 TDI – the race car that clinched the victory at the 2011 24 hours of Le Mans for Audi for the 10th time since the brand’s debut in 1999. With its new car exhibits at Qatar Motor Show Audi depicts the further development of motorsport innovation into series production.

Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales of AUDI AG, hosted the official Audi press conference, which received much attention by regional VIPs and media. With a view towards the Audi R18 TDI Le Mans race car, Schwarzenbauer set the direction for Audi’s participation in the Show: At Audi, we’re convinced that to strive for sustainability does not mean having to give up on what gets the heart racing. Our aim is to combine passion and reason in every Audi and our engineers give their best to achieve this every day.

Audi had only recently announced a sales increase of 26.8 percent in 2011 (7,865 units) and intends to maintain the momentum with further model introductions in the region in 2012, explains Jeff Mannering, Managing Director of Audi Middle East. “With the new models revealed today as well as the new Audi Q3 – our first compact SUV – we still have several surprises for Audi fans to look forward to this year.”

At the 2012 Qatar Motor Show Audi presents the refreshed A5 model series with the new Audi RS 5. The RS 5 Coupé is undoubtedly the star athlete of the A5 family. Powered by a normally aspirated 4,163 cc V8 engine it delivers 450 hp at 8,250 rpm, with the peak torque of 430 Nm available between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm, giving a zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The new Audi A5 models are expected to arrive in the Middle East in the first quarter of 2012, the RS 5 in the second quarter.

Audi also revealed the R8 GT Spyder as the new open-top flagship model of the R8 model line. Thanks to the Audi ultra lightweight technology the Audi R8 GT Spyder delivers scintillating performance. The 5.2-liter V10 develops 560 hp and 540 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 317 km/h. As with the coupe GT, just 333 of the high-performance sports car will be built.

With the new Audi S7 and S8 on display, Audi furthermore presents its new

S models for the first time in the Middle East and showcases innovative production solutions. The new Audi S models are powered by a new engine – a four-liter, twin-turbo V8, which combines ample power with low fuel consumption in keeping with the times. The newly developed “cylinder on demand” technology deactivates four of the eight cylinders under part load for an efficiency gain that is particularly pronounced at moderate highway speeds. The S6 and S7 use the 420 hp version of the new 4.0 TFSI. The twin-turbo V8 provides a constant 550 Nm of torque from 1,400 to 5,300 rpm. It accelerates the S6 and S7 from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and 4.9 seconds respectively.

The Audi S8 is the new head of the Audi S model family. Its new 4.0 TFSI generates no less than 520 hp and delivers a constant 650 Nm of torque between 1,700 and 5,500 rpm. The result is outstanding performance: The sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes just 4.2 seconds. With all three models, the electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h is just a formality. The new Audi S models are expected to be launched in the Middle East in summer 2012.

  • Volkswagen at the Qatar Motor Show 2012

The Passat is an important component of our model strategy in the Middle East region where classic saloons define the street scene. That is because the Passat delivers top levels of safety and comfort and offers more space for rear passengers due to its long wheelbase,” explained Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Head of Development and member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen Brand, at the Qatar Motor Show.

The Passat is powered by a 125 kW / 170 PS five-cylinder petrol engine, and it perfectly conveys the German values of precision, performance and quality. Even the base version includes a radio-CD system with Bluetooth hands-free telephone system and a 6.5-inch TFT touchscreen. It also has electric windows, air conditioner, heat insulating glass, cruise control, immobiliser system and comfort seats.

Not only is comfort on-board as standard, so is safety – because the Passat has ESP, ABS with brake assistant and six standard airbags. Private customers like the alternative to the classic saloon as do business customers who drive many kilometres and have made the Passat the new ‘business class’. The entry-level model already shines with 16-inch aluminium wheels.

Volkswagen is also showing the Touareg Magic Morning at the motor show: this is a public version of the Race Touareg 3 that raced at the Dakar Rally. The 228 kW / 310 PS Volkswagen, equipped with a safety cage, is likely the world’s most talented street-legal SUV. Another show vehicle being presented in Qatar is the Amarok with a new gearbox: an 8-speed automatic is now available in the Volkswagen pickup, which delivers even more comfort and better fuel economy.
